LIMITED GROWTH OF NEW LOAN DISBURSEMENTS AND CORPORATE DEMAND FOR FINANCING
The Financing Supply and Demand Survey indicated modest growth of corporate demand for financing in April 2023, as reflected by a Weighted Net Balance (WNB) of 19.8%, down from 24.0% in March 2023. Demand for financing was primarily sourced from internal funds, which remained dominant, followed by an increase in committed undisbursed loans. Meanwhile, demand for financing sourced through domestic banks tended to moderate.
New loan disbursements by the banking industry in April 2023 also indicated limited growth, with the corresponding WNB decreasing to 68.9% from 94.6% in the previous period. The main affecting factors of new loan disbursements in the reporting period were customer demand, the monetary and economic outlook, as well as the level of business competition between banks. Overall, however, new loan disbursements by the banking industry are projected to increase in the second quarter of 2023.
In terms of households, demand for new financing was also observed to moderate in April 2023, with commercial banks remaining the primary source of additional household financing in the form of multipurpose loans. In addition, households also relied on other sources to meet their financing needs, including cooperatives and leasing.
