London Stock Exchange welcomes Indo-Pacific delegation as part of London Tech Week
London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) yesterday welcomed the Department for Business and Trade’s Indo-Pacific delegation to London Tech Week for an exclusive Market Close Ceremony hosted by the UK’s Deputy Prime Minister, The Rt Honourable Oliver Dowden CBE and the Secretary of State for the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, Chloe Smith.
London Tech Week is the UK’s largest technology-focused event and is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2023. A record-breaking number of international delegates are participating in London Tech Week this year, with over 1,000 entrepreneurs, investors and innovators from across the world joining the week’s diverse programme of activities. Of these 1,000 delegates, more than 600 hail from the Indo-Pacific region alone – demonstrating the international appeal of the UK tech sector and the growing connections between the UK and the Indo-Pacific.
The UK already has the largest tech sector in Europe and the third largest globally behind only the US and China. This position of the UK as a global science and technology superpower is founded on combining world-leading innovation and skills with agile and pro-innovation regulation, standards and values.
Yesterday’s Market Close Ceremony gave founders and entrepreneurs from across the Indo-Pacific region an opportunity to hear about this thriving tech ecosystem and about how London's capital markets support the growth of global businesses.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Prime Minister, RT Hon Oliver Dowden CBE MP, said:
“It’s an honour to close the day’s trading alongside entrepreneurs, innovators, and investors from the Indo-Pacific, as part of London Tech Week. The fortunes of our two regions are already deeply intertwined, and the UK government is committed to strengthening this relationship wherever we can - particularly through investment in the industries of the future, such as semiconductors, green energy, and quantum technologies.”
