Beijing E-Town Calls for Global Participation for Open Cooperation
The 2024 Beijing E-Town High-Quality Development Investment Promotion Conference took place recently under the theme of "Invest in E-Town, Innovate for Future". The achievements of Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (Beijing E-Town) in terms of high-standard opening-up were highlighted during the conference.
Strengthen Foreign-Funded Enterprises' Confidence in Growing in E-Town
During the conference, representatives from Beijing E-Town honored 30 outstanding foreign-funded enterprises that have collaborated with the area for 10, 20, or 30 years, encouraging foreign-funded enterprises to increase investment and expand production.
Among those honored was SMC Corporation, a company receiving accolades for its 30-year partnership with Beijing E-Town. As the first wholly foreign-owned enterprise in the area, SMC Corporation has enjoyed national treatment since its operation in Beijing and has firmly rooted itself in the area for three decades. The company has built multiple factories and recently laid the foundation for its largest overseas R&D innovation center in Beijing E-Town. Additionally, Bayer Healthcare Co., Ltd. recently obtained approval from the filing and review processes of negative list within the E-Town Cluster, becoming Beijing's first enterprise to accomplish cross-border data transfer in compliance with the relevant regulations of the negative list policy for cross-border data transfer in the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone.
So far, 158 projects from 103 Fortune Global 500 enterprises have been launched in Beijing E-Town. Notably, one in every four Fortune Global 500 enterprises from Germany and the United Kingdom chose to establish operations in the area. Besides, the area is home to 46 accredited foreign-funded R&D centers, accounting for approximately one-third of the total in Beijing.
An International Environment for Foreign-Funded Enterprises
The steady development of foreign-funded enterprises is closely related to an international industrial space. To enhance the connection within the industrial ecosystem and support enterprises in their pursuit of openness and development, Beijing E-Town has designated ten entities, including Han's Plaza, VPark, Guorui Plaza, Huilongsen Science and Technology Park, and Liando U Valley Plaza, as the "International Industrial Parks of Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area". These selected parks will benefit from streamlined services and support from Beijing E-Town, such as administrative reviews and approvals, government services, and open supporting resources. They will also receive support in their efforts toward international transformation.
Earn a Reputation as the Optimal Regional Choice for Foreign Investment
During the conference, Beijing E-Town signed cooperation agreements with six international platforms such as the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in China, the German Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Swiss Chinese Chamber of Commerce. In total, 21 enterprises from the China (Beijing) Pilot Free Trade Zone seeking to establish a presence in the area signed contracts with Beijing E-Town, reflecting a shared commitment to promoting high-level opening-up.
Beijing E-Town places a strong emphasis on providing customized services, policies, and systems. The area consistently conducts a range of service-oriented activities designed to assist these foreign enterprises in finding markets, partners, and resources. It will continue to optimize and enhance foreign investment policy packages and services, to ensure streamlined review processes and top-tier support for foreign-related procedures. Its goal is to pave the way for foreign-funded enterprises seeking to make further progress in the Chinese market.
